Double Take: Black & White Striped Chair Before & After

Hello, lovely readers! Hope you all are having a great day! I have a makeover treat for you today. I’ve finally finished upholstering the black and white striped chair for my bedroom. My determination to finish this chair was even too much for my injured thumb, which I had accidentally shut in the door. OUCH! It feels a lot better today than it did on Sunday, but I did hit it a few more times with the mallet in the upholstery process. I may or may not have screamed out in pure agony. I’m actually sadder that I had to remove my nail polish to examine the injury.

By now you’re probably wondering why I’ve spent so much time talking about my stupid thumb and less time talking about the makeover. Here’s a quick look at the fugly before. Green, red and cream floral flocked fabric=fugly.

Now here’s the lovely after! Ta-da! I purchase 4 yards of Black & White Canopy Stripe fabric by Premier Prints for $38 with shipping from Warehouse Fabrics but only used about 2 3/4 yards. I plan to make some pillows with the leftover. I ordered the fabric on a Thursday night, it shipped Friday and I received it Tuesday morning.  I’m very happy with my first experience with Warehouse Fabrics and can’t recommend them enough.

Doesn’t it look so pretty next to the teal dresser? When I first painted my dresser teal I didn’t think that black and white would be the colors I’d pair with it, but I love it!

The chair wasn’t too difficult to upholster, but please believe it’s not perfect. I’m not a perfectionist so it doesn’t bother me. As long as the stripes look aligned I’m satisfied.

Grr! I forgot to fix the knob on the dresser again! Oh well….I have few things to finish up on the chair, but I’m not in any rush right now to complete it. Hope you enjoyed my chair makeover.

If you have entered the cutting edge stencil giveaway yet it ends Thursday night.

Yes, it was rather ugly before. Very classy now. Love the stripe.

    • Kahli

Yes it was! Thanks for visiting again Rosemary :)

  2. cassie

wow! what a difference! so dramatic- you know i love stripes!

    • Kahli

Thanks so much Cassie! Who doesn’t love stripes???! Stripes are the best!

  3. Katie @ Wildwood Creek

The black and white stripes look so classy! Love it next to the teal dresser.

    • Kahli

I thought the bold stripes might possibly be too much for my box of a room but it’s perfect!

  4. Tiff

That chair looks great…and so does the dresser!

  5. Jadyn @ Dutch.British.Love

Ohmygoodness, good job seeing the potential in the slightly scary before! Love love the stripes and the black and white looks awesome with the teal dresser!

    • Kahli

Yeah the before is very scary haha. I just kept thinking that there is light at the end of the tunnel lol

  6. mishelle

    Love the chair!

  8. Jennifer

I am totally coveting your chair right now. So cute!

  9. Kammy from Kammy's Korner

Bet that wasn’t real easy to do! Unless you’re an old pro… which I am not! Love it with the teal too! :)

    • Kahli

Old pro?? Ha, I wish! Lol. This was like my 3rd or 4th sewing project ever at least as far as upholstery goes. My very first sewing project was upholstering the chair in my living room. I try to get better with each project. I still think my first sewing project is my best to date.

  10. Jill

Anything in a bold black and white stripe is instantly classy or mod depending on what you pair it with – way to use those awesome design skills :)

    • Kahli

I would like to say I learned those in design school, but nope! I want to give my credit to magazines and lovely blog owners!

  11. Toodie

The chair looks great! Gives me the inspiration to try my loveseat (and couch, but I’m scared!). Super job and such a statement!

    • Kahli

You can do it Toodie! Lol

  12. Peggy

Kahli you did a wonderful job on the chair as I have done a little upholstery myself I know how difficult it was to do that chair. Thanks for coming by my blog and leaving kind words.

  13. shelby@honeysuckle

I love this chair – it looks so great! You could totally convince me that you’re a pro at reupholstering – looks awesome!

    • Kahli

Thanks so much Shelby! I’m glad that I’m convincing lol :)

  14. Jen Lossing, The Consigner Designer

Great job. Stripes are hard to use when reupholstering. This looks so chic!

    • Kahli

You’re right stripes are definitely a challenge, especially making sure they are straight.

  15. Sherry

This turned out wonderful! Thank you for joining me at Home Sweet Home!

  16. Cathy@My1929Charmer

Wow, seriously you did one h.ll. of a job. Matching stripes is no easy task, and it does look like a professional did it. Your chair really turned out beautiful, and you should be so proud of yourself. Thanks for sharing over at Sunday’s Best.

  17. Karen

You did a great job! I love the stripes, and that is hard to do!!
