Wood you believe It: Wood Tile Installation and QEP Spacer review

It’s me again. Milla’s in the building for the third time in a week! That alone earns a Tina Fey Self High Five gif.

So remember a couple days ago, I revealed a photo of  our self-leveling floor process in the kitchen…see below.

And remember some examples of wood tile installations?

Well we have since finished the installation process. It took a couple days and a few hiccups, but as of now we are just waiting for the grout to dry. Yay!

Speaking of hiccups…we used these tile leveling spacers and wedges that my fiance, let’s call him Ty (his real name) for descriptive purposes, found at Home Depot.

Why So Serious: Home Renovation Struggles and Inspiration

Posted on by Milla Posted in Before & After Projects, blog, Breeze, DIY, Inspiration, Kitchen, New House | Leave a comment

Oh Lovelies, has it already been 3 weeks since my last post??? What is happening? I can’t grasp it. I’m on the computer pretty often. And we’re working on so many projects that I can’t feel my legs by the time we are finished. I have all of these post ideas and not enough time, we just can’t keep up. Maybe because we are always saying screw it to taking progress pictures which negates the need for a post. Sigh…dilemmas.

Why is this Happening

Why is this Happening?

But I can’t complain too much. I’ve seen some horror home renovation stories around the blogosphere  and we have yet to experience that. Since June we opened nearly every wall on the main floor (curse you plaster walls) and encountered nothing but a sound structure. There weren’t any sinking beams or mold. No rotted floor joists. Most of our problems consisted of an awkwardly shaped kitchen, outdated family room, lack of closets (as expected in an old house), and an unleveled floor in some areas.

Speaking of an unleveled floor, the kitchen was greatly affected. Our plan is to install flooring over the existing dated tile. So we began, well my honey did all the work here. He applied self-leveling concrete over the tile and it worked perfectly! No more earthquake feeling beneath your feet whenever you walk.

Now that the concrete has fully dried, we hope to extend the look of wood flooring that exists in the rest of the house into the kitchen. So we purchased wood tile from The Tile Shop here in Maryland.

Got Twins? (Recapping a Year and a Half of Abandonment )

Got Twins? (Year and a half of abandonment)

Oh where, Oh where have those lovely twins gone? Oh where, oh where could they be? *sings* Hello Lovelies!! We have so much to apologize for…starting with the song at the beginning of this post. My apologies I need a pick me up, rough day. Anyway, I’m so disgusted and Kah is too ashamed to show her face here so I volunteered to add the first post after a year and a half of abandonment. Lucky me. So here it comes. You will get a “heartfelt” explanation, sprinkled with some damn good excuses,  and finished off with pictorial deliciousness wrapped in a extra long post. Sound good? Great. September 2012 to Early 2013: We were decorating for family. That’s always fun. Then painting for family. That sucked. Our arms and fingers hurt too much to type up a post for you all, which is why we didn’t (Excuse #1) Next…thrifting and Craigslisting for family. Yay more vintage chairs to own while inching closer to hoarder status. What can I say we are chair obsessed. Mid 2013 to Summer 2013: We had outgrown our apartment to the point that we had to use my parents basement as a free garage. So the search for a house began. Found a house we liked but was outbid. Bummer. Found another one. It was a flipper and it flipping failed the inspection. We withdrew our offer before they could run away with our deposit that was twice the amount than usual around Baltimore. I guess that should have been a sign. Read more

Double Take: Before & After Upholstered Yellow Side Chair Makeover with mini tutorial

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, DIY, Painting Projects, Tutorials, Upholstery Projects | 12 Comments

Hello! I know it’s been forever since you’ve seen either one of us around these parts, but I do have a makeover to share with you all today. The good news is that we haven’t just been sitting on our butts all month, we’ve actually been very busy! Other than enjoying our summer with trips to amusement parks, we have been working on our bedrooms and other projects. In the next few weeks we should have a huge upholstery project to share. However, today I’m sharing a chair that resides in my bedroom.

french cane chair

You may remember this chair from a few months ago that I purchased for $50 and I primed it right away, while I decided on a color and fabric.

After hitting the jackpot on a yellow garden stool at the new grand opening of HomeGoods in Baltimore (Towson) MD, I decided to go with a bright sunny yellow and here is the new look.

Isn’t it pretty? I really love anything yellow these days. It’s such a happy color and it looks great paired with white linen which I scored at 50% off a yard at Joann’s huge fabric sale last week. Read more

Double Take: Revamped Cobalt Blue Nightstand

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, Decor Inspiration, Furniture, Our Apartment, Painting Projects | 27 Comments

It’s been a long long time since you guys have seen me around these parts and an even longer time since my sister Milla has visited! But here I am to do what I do best, which is write posts about items in Milla’s room haha. At least the current post I’m writing is connected to her in someway. You see this nightstand used to be in my room.

But as you know my room has changed quite a bit since last year and my nightstands now live in Milla’s bedroom and with a new look!

The color is a custom color matched from a fabric swatch and it’s beautiful. The two of us hand painted the pair of nightstands a few weeks ago after days of debating on cobalt blue or turquoise.  Blue won out.  I love it in the new bold color over the subtle gray!

Milla is also the new owner of my teal lamps, which used to live in the hallway for a while. She really hit the jackpot on my compulsive buying and painting projects.  The nightstands were painted to match the cobalt blue desk vanity also in her room.

We moved the turquoise cane armchair next to the desk for a colorful vignette and Breeze vastly approved of the new look besides he will follow a chair to any corner. Read more

Sneak Peek: My Bedroom

Posted on by Kahli Posted in DIY, Our Apartment, Upholstery Projects | 6 Comments

Hello! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July last week. We didn’t do anything special for the holiday, but I do have something special to share with you today. We have been working on our upholstered beds for a few weeks, completing a little at a time. I still have a few things left to do with the bed, but most of the headboard is done. Here’s a quick peek.

gray and teal bedroom, teal desk, gray nailhead headboard, brass lamp

I rushed over to the Goodwill this morning to buy a stack of books and teacups to decorate the desk. I actually wanted ceramic bowls instead of teacups, but I couldn’t find any. Hopefully, on my way home I can find some at another location. I may need to replace them anyway, if Breeze is a bad boy while we are away and knocks them over.

The gray headboard is upholstered in white twill tape and nickel upholstery nailheads. Putting the nailheads on took longer than I expected! It took us most of Saturday to finish up the entire headboard! I’m happy to say that I still have my fingers, although the headboard did get dropped on my ankle, but the swelling has now subsided! I’ve always been very prone to accidents. Read more

Double Take: Before & After Teal Desk

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, DIY, Painting Projects | 7 Comments

I had plans to get this post up last Wednesday, but things didn’t go as planned. I suffered from a severe eye allergic reaction for most of Wednesday. That was the first time that ever happened to me! My eyes were so swollen that I looked like I just went 10 rounds in a boxing match. I looked like this.

My face is all better now though. Anyway to the point of this post. I purchased this desk about 3 months ago for $50 and for those 3 months I debated on whether to leave it black, paint it white or a color. Last week I decided to paint it a color.
I painted it teal, Lagoon by Rustoleum to be correct. I just love that color to death and I figured that side of the room needed some color against the white wall.
Isn’t it pretty? With the matching teal mirror. Speaking of the mirror it used to be on another wall in my room, but I decided I’d rather use it as vanity/desk. Read more

Double Take: Before & After Cobalt Blue Chair

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, DIY, Upholstery Projects | 10 Comments

I know you’ve been wondering where in the world we have been for the past month. We’ve been missing more than we’ve been present lately, especially Milla! But that’s what twins are for. There is always one around to pick up the slack. Speaking of slack, we haven’t been just sitting on our behinds. I finally have a makeover to share with you all. Remember this chair? That looked like this recently, but originally looked like that thing to the right?

black white stripe chair thrift store armchair

I did love the stripes a lot. I mean I really did, but apparently my cat Breeze didn’t love it as much because he used it as a scratching post and an easier way to get into my window. And by that time I didn’t even want stripes anymore on the chair. So now for the new look.

The Fairest Mirror of Them All

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, DIY, Painting Projects | 26 Comments

You may recall my rant yesterday about the ugly $12 mirror I purchased with the intention to beautify it. If you don’t here is another look at it.

I immediately cleaned the mirror free of dust and removed the glass from the frame so I wouldn’t have to tape it off. A quick coat of primer and then a coat of leftover teal spray paint “Lagoon” by Rustoleum late and I love it! The birds are singing! Read more

Double Take: Chevron Chair Before & After

Posted on by Kahli Posted in Before & After Projects, DIY, fabric, Upholstery Projects | 13 Comments

I’ve finally found the time to share the complete reveal of the chevron chair featured at our party with you all. Today was a lovely day outside so I tried something different and took the final pictures outside. For pictures of the before go here.
When and if that tree in the background blooms, it will make picture taking outside that much lovelier. With my string of good fortune, it will only be green leaves on it. Speaking of good fortune, how many of you played the Mega Millions last week? I, Milla and some of our family members bought tickets and Milla also entered a lottery pool at work. While, a winner in Baltimore did win…it was NOT us, bummer. Anyway, back to the chair. Read more
