Double Take: Revamped Cobalt Blue Nightstand

It’s been a long long time since you guys have seen me around these parts and an even longer time since my sister Milla has visited! But here I am to do what I do best, which is write posts about items in Milla’s room haha. At least the current post I’m writing is connected to her in someway. You see this nightstand used to be in my room.

But as you know my room has changed quite a bit since last year and my nightstands now live in Milla’s bedroom and with a new look!

The color is a custom color matched from a fabric swatch and it’s beautiful. The two of us hand painted the pair of nightstands a few weeks ago after days of debating on cobalt blue or turquoise. Blue won out. I love it in the new bold color over the subtle gray!

Milla is also the new owner of my teal lamps, which used to live in the hallway for a while. She really hit the jackpot on my compulsive buying and painting projects. The nightstands were painted to match the cobalt blue desk vanity also in her room.

We moved the turquoise cane armchair next to the desk for a colorful vignette and Breeze vastly approved of the new look besides he will follow a chair to any corner.

You may have noticed the great little knick knacks I threw together for some nightstand styling decor. The small clock was a Homegoods find and the ornate picture frame was purchased at TJ Maxx. Speaking of Homegoods. A new store is opening up in the Baltimore (Towson- opening August 19th) area and we can’t be any more happier. We may have done a happy dance and screamed exciting expletives when we drove past the new location. That makes 3 Homegoods within 20-30 minutes of each other for us.

Recent Purchases: New & Old

Hello lovelies! Sorry we took the week off. Our family reunion took place over the weekend, which we had to move inside because it rained all day long. However, we didn’t allow the weather to stop us from having fun! After the fun was over I fit in some time for shopping. I can always make time to shop!

First up, is a beautiful brass lamp I bought from the Goodwill for a mere $10. I originally had a different brass lamp (pictured above), but it came as a pair and I was advised by Milla to move it back to the dining room. So that left me lamp-less for a few hours until I found this beauty!

It’s a nice a heavy brass lamp, I especially love the raised leaf design. Here’s a closeup. And that beauty to the left is my new gold round mirror. I’m only showing a sneak peek because the room isn’t quite ready for full viewing. I bought the mirror from Marshalls for $39.99, aren’t the intertwined circles amazing!

Eye Candy: Boho Chic Bedrooms

Hello all! I introduce you to the second post in one week! I’m getting better, right? Sooner or later I’ll be back to at least 4 posts a week (I hope). Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite bohemian style bedrooms. While I was searching for inspiration to finish up my bedroom, I kept leaning toward the boho chic variety. And I’m now convinced that is the style I prefer, at least in my bedroom. Boho bedrooms are typically very carefree and eclectic and that describes me perfectly.

First up, is this bedroom by Naomi Stein from Design Manifest. If you haven’t seen this bedroom before you have been living under a rock for some time now. In fact, Naomi’s entire home is AMAZING, every room could fit into the theme of this post. She does a great job of mixing modern with vintage and making it bohemian glam. If I can get my paws on a batik dyed bedspread like this I would be ecstatic. And that Marilyn Monroe print is divine. You can purchase it here . I think I may consider buying it. I’ve always wanted a Ms. Monroe print in my home.

This bedroom was designed by Sara Berrenson from All the Pretties. This bedroom is about the same size as mine and I love everything about it especially that headboard and quilt at the foot of bed! I found the bedroom on Pinterest and it lead me to her house tour. Be sure to check it out and the rest of the blog, she has some great stuff on there. She even has a great fabric line on Spoonflower.

Here’s some progress on my attempt at the boho chic look. I purchased this rug from Homegoods last week with some encouraging from Milla not really knowing what direction my room was going in. I also purchased the hot pink ruffeld throw from TJ Maxx yesterday. I’m really loving the rug for now because it’s the first introduction of a pattern into the room. I’m on the hunt for a block print quilt or pillow to add some more prints to the room because that’s what the Boho look is all about. It doesn’t have to match, but it does have to go together.

Sneak Peek: My Bedroom

Hello! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July last week. We didn’t do anything special for the holiday, but I do have something special to share with you today. We have been working on our upholstered beds for a few weeks, completing a little at a time. I still have a few things left to do with the bed, but most of the headboard is done. Here’s a quick peek.

I rushed over to the Goodwill this morning to buy a stack of books and teacups to decorate the desk. I actually wanted ceramic bowls instead of teacups, but I couldn’t find any. Hopefully, on my way home I can find some at another location. I may need to replace them anyway, if Breeze is a bad boy while we are away and knocks them over.

The gray headboard is upholstered in white twill tape and nickel upholstery nailheads. Putting the nailheads on took longer than I expected! It took us most of Saturday to finish up the entire headboard! I’m happy to say that I still have my fingers, although the headboard did get dropped on my ankle, but the swelling has now subsided! I’ve always been very prone to accidents.

My to-do list is shrinking week by week. I still have to sew the gray and white striped fabric from my stash into pillow shams, it’s just draped over the pillow for now. I think I may prefer the chair pictured above over the other one below. It needs a little work, especially on the seat and I think I like the less ornate look, the cane makes it appear too busy.

I’m on the search for a nice throw and maybe some fabric for my euro pillows, I still haven’t decided if I want to use them yet.

Double Take: Before & After Teal Desk

I had plans to get this post up last Wednesday, but things didn’t go as planned. I suffered from a severe eye allergic reaction for most of Wednesday. That was the first time that ever happened to me! My eyes were so swollen that I looked like I just went 10 rounds in a boxing match. I looked like this.

My face is all better now though. Anyway to the point of this post. I purchased this desk about 3 months ago for $50 and for those 3 months I debated on whether to leave it black, paint it white or a color. Last week I decided to paint it a color.
I painted it teal, Lagoon by Rustoleum to be correct. I just love that color to death and I figured that side of the room needed some color against the white wall.
Isn’t it pretty? With the matching teal mirror. Speaking of the mirror it used to be on another wall in my room, but I decided I’d rather use it as vanity/desk.
The lampshade may need some dressing up because I’m not completely loving the all white look. I’m also a little torn on what to do with this chair. For now it has been sitting primed with the same cobalt fabric that’s on the chair.
I haven’t stapled down the fabric because I’m leaning toward a pattern for the chair, maybe something geometric like chevron or a nice ikat or maybe even a floral fabric.

Double Take: Before & After Cobalt Blue Chair

I know you’ve been wondering where in the world we have been for the past month. We’ve been missing more than we’ve been present lately, especially Milla! But that’s what twins are for. There is always one around to pick up the slack. Speaking of slack, we haven’t been just sitting on our behinds. I finally have a makeover to share with you all. Remember this chair? That looked like this recently, but originally looked like that thing to the right?

I did love the stripes a lot. I mean I really did, but apparently my cat Breeze didn’t love it as much because he used it as a scratching post and an easier way to get into my window. And by that time I didn’t even want stripes anymore on the chair. So now for the new look.

Yup it’s cobalt blue or royal blue whatever you want to call it. I found 4 yards of silk dupioni fabric on etsy for just $15, so that really convinced me to give it another makeover. I stripped the black paint off the legs and added buttons too. As you can also see my walls are no longer light gray, but bright white. I love the way the cobalt blue looks next to my teal dresser, it makes for a nice color combination. I also dressed up new my dressform with most of Milla’s jewelry.

Small Spaces: The Petite Bedroom Edition

I can’t believe that as long as we’ve had this site, I’ve never done a small bedroom roundup. As I stated before the size of my bedroom is 9′x10′. While it is small I’m attempting to make it work for me. So today’s post will feature small bedrooms that work.

This bedroom is what I will call very tiny. In fact, I’m sure that there is a person out there with a closet this size, the amount of natural light makes this room. I especially love the chandelier and wall shelving.

I’ve always loved this tiny but stylish bedroom. The mix of patterns work together so well. The textiles are by Rubie Green and I really love that headboard, but the fabric is not in my price range at all!

This sweet and simple bedroom has nothing in it but a fabulous ornate bed and yet it has so much character with the white wood paneling and narrow window. I don’t know if I could live without some sort of bedside table, but I love an all white bedroom.

These bedrooms are way smaller than what I’m sleeping and it appears functional, especially the first two. So if those owners can make those bedrooms work I can too.

I would kill for this much space at the foot of my bed. I think I would have put a small settee or loveseat there.

A small bedroom has its challenges, but it can be very cozy and inviting when designed correctly. Hopefully, my bedroom comes out on top too.

The Fairest Mirror of Them All

You may recall my rant yesterday about the ugly $12 mirror I purchased with the intention to beautify it. If you don’t here is another look at it.

I immediately cleaned the mirror free of dust and removed the glass from the frame so I wouldn’t have to tape it off. A quick coat of primer and then a coat of leftover teal spray paint “Lagoon” by Rustoleum late and I love it! The birds are singing!

It is displayed on the wall at the foot of my bed for now and I don’t mind it. I used to have a floor mirror there and I couldn’t stand the glow of the moon from my window reflecting at night in my face while I slept. I would imagine figures in the window and instantly be terrified! I’m such a wimp. In my defense , there was a guy outside my window before trying to get his girlfriend on the second floor to wake up. He moved away when Breeze unhappily jumped in the window to check him out. Needless to say that floor mirror has been moved to the living room.

I still have so much left to do, but this is a great start along with my teal dresser. I have to decide on what color to paint this chair, right now it is sitting in my room with primer on it. I don’t want to commit to white and then change it later. I’ve painted my ceiling bright white as well, which wasn’t as bad as I remember. My neck was only a little stiff, no more complaints about a small bedroom from me. I still have to decide on fabric for the upholstered bed that Milla and I made with the help of her boyfriend. The list will never end.
