Double Take: Gray Sideboard Before & After

Good morning all you lovely people, I promised to share the completion of the under $100 gray sideboard about a whole week ago! Wow how time flies! I finally got around to polishing the other hardware with Rub N Buff in Gold, which I purchased from Michael’s. That stuff is great! We had a really busy weekend with three hair makeovers and of course Sunday football. Great ending to a busy weekend with a Baltimore Ravens win! Here’s the before picture again if you need a reminder of how it looked:
Modern Sideboard in Hallway

And here’s the lovely after painted in Wet Pavement by Valspar. It’s definitely our go-to gray until we finish the quart at least. The original finish wasn’t too bad but we wanted the entryway to still appear “open”.

Gray Sideboard

Isn’t it lovely! I’m not really sure what Breeze is doing in this picture, other than trying to be a model. I must say he is working it!

Gray Sideboard

The metallic owl was a spur of the moment purchase from Homegoods and too cute to resist. I took the teal lamps from my bedroom and placed on the sideboard. I think the tall height works better here.

Gray Sideboard

The shades may need a little dressing up. Should we add some grosgrain ribbon or just leave it white?

Gray Sideboard

Here’s what most of that wall is looking like. I purchase that chair from our local Goodwill for a grand total of $5. Should we paint it yellow as well or leave it in the original condition? I think the globe would look really nice against the yellow. Here’s a look at the entire wall:

Yellow would look great on the chair, right? Especially as a complement to our beautiful floral chair. We’re thinking of doing a gallery wall around the TV area too. This post is getting a little picture heavy, but it wouldn’t be complete without more pictures of Breeze!

I think he intentionally likes to be include in our furniture makeovers. It seems like when he hears the first snap of the camera he appears from nowhere. But I can’t resist that cute face!

  7. Katie @ Wildwood Creek

I have to agree with you; Breeze is adorable! Oh BTW, love the color and hardware of the sideboard!

Awesome piece! What a cool owl too, I am really into owls lately. Thanks for sharing with my newbie party.

  13. Kelly @ JAX does design

Hahaha! Breeze is a real camera hog, isn’t he?! 😉 I love seeing pets in home pictures – they’re the best home decor :-)

Love the dresser makeover. The teal lamps are the perfect colour and size, and the owl is a fun accessory. I agree, the wood chair would look great in yellow to balance the yellow & grey chair on the other side of the TV cabinet.

  14. Mary - because i like to decorate...

Beautiful shape and I just love the hardware. Great job!

    • Milla

Thanks a lot Mary for stopping by. The hardware is my favorite part too

  15. claire rose

  16. Rebecca Mcdonald

Love the transformation and agree that yellow may be perfect….or…..keep the original color with a yellow pillow? Great work and thank you so much for sharing it at Meet Me Monday! Love, Me http://www.youaretalkingtoomuch.com

    • Milla

Yellow pillow that might work. Right now we’re going to keep it in its original state for a while to see how we like it

  17. tammy

beautiful job! love the shape and color of the piece.

    • Milla

Thanks very much Tammy for the lovely comment and visiting.

  18. Nita{ModVintageLife}

The sideboard looks great in that color. Yes, paint the chair yellow…for sure and Breeze is one handsome boy!

  19. Lindsay

Wow, it looks really amazing! I am loving that color! Those lamps are awesome as well! You have great style!

    • Kahli

Thanks Lindsay your visits are always appreciated!

  20. Suzy

You ladies are busy! I really like the color and the style of the buffet is so cool and unique. Great job!

    • Kahli

Yes we are Suzy! Yes we are! I could use a break but then I might get lazy! Haha

  21. Redlilocks {Swoon Worthy}

Oh I love it!! The grey and gold work perfectly and I think you should go and paint that chair yellow – I know you want to, you know you want to – heck, I think Breeze knows you want to so as far as I’m concerned, it’s a done deal! 😉

Breeze is lovely by the way, his poses are ace!! My cat Pablo is exactly the same, I’m sure he comes running as well when he hears the camera case zipper! xx

    • Kahli

Pablo and Breeze could be great friends if Breeze wasn’t such a meany around other cats. Looks like yellow is the winner!

  22. Barbara

    Hi Ladies,
I love how the sideboard turned out. And, yes paint the chair yellow! The room is coming together nicely. Keep up the good work :) Breeze is quite the ham!

    • Kahli

I should get a jump start on painting the chair yellow. I would seriously be doing that right now if I didn’t have a stiff neck from sleep incorrectly. I think all cats are hams. In my Design Sponge at Home book there are several photos with cats just lounging around. I must say they make great props lol.

  23. Carol

WOW this is a stunning piece! Really turned out great. Thanks for sharing at this week’s BFF Open House!

    • Dora

With all these silly weissteb, such a great page keeps my internet hope alive.

  24. Katie

Oh my gosh! I love it!! I love the gray with the gold handles! And the lamps! Basically love the whole room! 😉

    • Kahli

Thanks Katie! Always nice to have you. Once we get the gallery wall together it will be much more complete!

  25. nicolette @ momnivore's dilemma

  30. amy

oooooooh!!! i love the sideboard…and the lamps….and the gorgeous upholstered chair! not the cat, though. i’m allergic. well, then the chair may have kitty hair so i guess i have to pick up one of my own. hmmm. where would that be???

    you rocked this piece!!

    • Kahli

Hey Amy! Aww you’re allergic to cats :( Breeze will be so sad. He seems to love people that are allergic to him too lol. Yes the chair has kitty hair because he loves that chair it’s his favorite haha. I bought the chair from the thrift store and reupholstered it in some Thomas Paul fabric. http://designpardeux.com/armchair-makeover/

      Thanks for visiting :)

  31. Karen

I love the color. You did great work, it looks perfect!

  32. Cathy @ My 1929 Charmer

I love the side board painted, and the turquoise makes it all pop. I especially like how you left the handle area dark. I think this give it a really unique look. Great job. Thanks so much for sharing at Sundays’ Best.

  33. Michelle at Faith, Trust, & Pixie Dust

I love the lines on this piece & you made it look even better.

    Warmly, Michelle

  34. Vanessa @ {nifty thrifty things}

    • Mahalia

Jeremy, I agree with Elaine and you, of course, about trying to shot a lot of &#u220;8nstage” intimate photos of the family interactions that is somehow not intruding too much on their privacy. Is that even possible? How about several shots of them about town? If they have any down time at all!Jeremy, congratulations on this opportunity to be a part of The Osmonds overseas tour 2008!

That sideboard looks amazing Kahli! What a great piece, you did such a beautiful job with it! Thank you SO much for all your super sweet comments on my blog, it totally made my day! You should definitely try black – I never thought I’d like it but I’m totally hooked now :) Hopefully talk to you again soon!

    • Kahli

I was on your site for awhile. I had to get off so I could be productive lol! But I’ve subscribed so I won’t miss a thing now. My twin will be willing to try black at some point. I wonder where we can fit it in our apartment.

  37. Hollie @ I'm Busy Procrastinating

Found your dresser at Nifty Thrifty Sunday. It’s gorgeous. The lines of the piece itself are lovely, and the paint color is just perfect. And I can’t resist a cute kitty in a photo, either! I have four cats myself, and at least one of them seems to make her way into all of my photos.

    • Kahli

Cats love to feel important don’t they! Four cats?! Wow, we wanted to get another get but Breeze wouldn’t allow it, he’s so territorial lol. Thanks for the lovely comments!
