Happy Thursday everyone! The weather is beautiful here today in Baltimore, MD compared to the rainy mess yesterday. Since it was raining outside, I was forced to work inside. We purchased a vintage junior rolltop on Craigslist over the summer to use in a 4 year-old boy’s bedroom. My first intention was to strip, sand, and stain it to replace the previous orange-y finish.

The top and the desk area fared well but the lower sides turned out to be of a lesser quality wood. In other words it was fake!

See, what I mean? I’m sure it would have looked lovely stained, but paint is a good friend when things don’t turn out like you planned. The rolltop desk was painted in a lovely shade of gray called Wet Pavement by Valspar in Satin Finish. We had leftover paint from painting the dining room and I barely used much of that since it covered so well. So without further ado, here’s the after:

Isn’t it gorgeous!? Well I guess I can’t say gorgeous since it’s supposed to be for a boy. So we’ll just call it handsome. I’m continuing to put that wrapping paper to good use too! I really like it in the inside. I haven’t permanently glued it down with modpodge as of yet. I wanted to test it out first to see how much I liked it. What do you all think? Are the stripes too much? Milla is usually my voice of reason, and she’s pretty convincing at getting me to change things, but she said she liked it too.
We love stripes! The red stripes add to the vintage charm of this rolltop desk. I hope the boy loves it just as much in his room.
