I’d consider myself a very productive person in the morning- if I’m already up that is. During the week I’m usually up before 9 to drop Milla off at her respective job. After dropping her off I’ll get back home by 9:30 and since I don’t have to go to work til after 1, that gives me plenty of time to complete necessary projects or shopping trips.
Most days, my shopping trips involve stopping at every goodwill or thrift store within a 20 miles radius, but today I decided to take my money over to Ikea. Ikea and I have a very good relationship and while my house is not completely furnished with Ikea I do like to mix pieces from there with thrifted items for a unique look.
I didn’t have any particular products in mind when I walked in, sometimes I just go for inspiration. First stop: The “As is” bin. I spotted a good amount of gems and here’s what I picked up today:
So…how about that earthquake earlier today! It seemed like it hit multiple states. Here in Baltimore, MD the news said it was about a 5.9 magnitude. That was my first earthquake ever and I must admit it freaked me out somewhat. At first I didn’t really know what was going on just thought a plane was outside, but then the shaking did not get any better. Once reality set in, my first instinct was to find Breeze and save my new precious thrifty $20 mirror- you see where my priorities are??? The good news is that we didn’t suffer any damage! I hope all our lovely readers are okay :).
Since that earthquake shook us all up today, here’s some more free printable art to calm you down. I searched the internet looking for some of the best free printable art I could find and I’m sharing my discoveries with you. To download my free printable art from yesterday click here.
I mentioned in a previous post that Kah and I would be reupholstering a headboard for our next diy client project. If you haven’t read the post…we scored this twin-size headboard at our local Goodwill for$10. See it below:
For a few months I’ve had this large ornate plastic wooden frame sitting in the corner of my bedroom with no purpose. I didn’t like it in its natural state, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to paint it a bold color, nor if I even wanted to keep it! That’s when I decided to see if I could give it a silver antique appearance. Here’s a few before pictures:
The picture on the right shows after I unscrewed the mirror from the frame so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting spray paint on the mirror.
So I just realized today is Wednesday. I don’t remember much of Tuesday, except that Kah and I had one meal for the day and that was two Smuckers Uncrustables.
Question of the day:
Why do us crafty DIY folks starve in order to slave over a project?
Perfect example, Kah and I were on vacation from our respective jobs last week and made the most of each day, including painting a dresser, thrifting, painting a large living room and salon suite, and of course starting this blog. Yay! Here comes the big double but(t)…But I could probably count on one hand the number of times we stopped to eat.
Monday: Lazy Monday. We sat in our beds all day until 5:00pm eating a box of Rice Chex without milk.
Tuesday: Searched numerous blogs for twinspiration. Much more productive here. We painted Kah’s teal dresser and a pair of night stands for my room (I’ll feature those in an upcoming post). It started raining….productivity cut short. (Can’t even remember what I had to eat here, it most likely wasn’t substantial)
Wednesday: Spent time with the godchildren, took them on a thrifty adventure. They really enjoyed it. We stopped at McDonald’s, ate a “healthy” chicken sandwich. Oh and Breeze had a trip to the vet for his yearly rabies shot. He acted like a complete fool. Seriously, we heard him meow angrily from the waiting room. Maybe because he found out that he had gained two pounds. If he was doing this, he would be a few pounds lighter.
Here’s another dose of Twinterest Tuesday! We love doing this round-up because it gives us a reason not to feel wrong for never closing out Pinterest.com on our browsers. And one of our visitors actually found an item from last weeks post at the thrift store for $6. So glad we were able to twinspire someone. So here’s what caught our attention this week: Read more
Today I’m sharing with you a moodboard I created for my current bedroom. Like I’ve mentioned before, my bedroom is small, which means I have to be smart with the colors and furniture pieces I select. While I have to be cautious, that doesn’t mean I can’t incorporate something bold! And there’s no better way to go bold than painting my dresser teal. My design style is feminine glam- a clear indication that I am single… but, I’m all for balancing out all the feminine elements with a touch of masculinity. Check out the moodboard below.
The past two days we’ve browsed local thrift stores and took pictures of some items that we came across. Much like a local Craigslist feature post It’s Frugal Friday will showcase thrifty finds that we may or may have not purchased. Items that were purchased may show up in future Before & After posts. Yay! And since we don’t want to become hoarders, items that we like but have no use for remained at the stores. So maybe if you live locally or not too far you can pick them up.
