Side Table: Vintage Suitcase Edition (Inspiration)

Happy Friday everyone! It’s inspiration time! Inspiration time means Kah and I find some inspiring photos for our next DIY project and you all give us feedback. What is our next project you ask? Because of course we’re always doing something right. It’s a sad unfortunate obsession. We should seek help.

Anyway our next project in the works is a suitcase side table. Kah purchased a vintage suitcase several months ago and it’s literally collecting dust as the saying goes. Seriously, it has moved from room to room and the inside of it smells like something died inside. Anyway, it looks similar to this one:

In fact, this might be the same suitcase. We don’t know. Either way we want to create a side table for a lonely corner in our living room. So on to Google I went for inspiration. This is what I found:

Our dilemma is what style of legs should we use, turned legs, tapered legs, or the crossed legs? Or should we cover it in fabric like this beauty from 36th Avenue.

Or paint it all white like this Suitcase Nightstand by Songbird Nesting. In fact this lovely blogger also has a tutorial on How to Paint A Suitcase

So….what should we do? We’ll need feedback soon because Kah gets antsy if she doesn’t complete a project within a week of coming up with the idea. Thanks in advance to all our lovely visitors.

Great ideas! I love the suitcase nightstand! I’m on my way there to see how she painted this! I love yours and can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Thanks Betsy. We can be very indecisive. I personally like the tapered legs and a painted suitcase.

Making any kind of side table would be a great reuse of a vintage suitcase. My personal favorites – of those shown here – are the ones from re-nest and Songbird Nesting. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Be sure to link it to Time Travel Thursday when your project is completed. 😉

    Have a great Sunday!

I am loving these little tables. I think you should decide what color you want first and then choose legs to coordinate. So whimsical or industrial, etc. Something about the 2nd one is really drawing me in. It’s not to cutesy.

Yea that’s good one. We have since painting stripes on the suitcase which can be seen on our last post with desk. Thanks Dana for the advice
